But to me, even though the dialogue and characters were much better written in BO3 than previously in terms of being deep, the story itself lacked that mystery of "wanting to know" that the previous games had, and instead it felt like an action/fantasy thriller. ![]() So yeah, you definitely need a story that moves forward and you can latch onto it. But if we ever saw these aliens that placed it there, the whole sense of mystery and the feeling of the unkown would be completely gone from the movie. The film 2001: A Space Odyssey had a similar thing with a monolith being dug up on the moon. And I don't think we ever needed to know. The Pyramid Device is a great example too, where you never know who exactly placed it there or why until BO3. The speculation about "who were these beings?" and "what may they look like?" gave them a sense of eeriness, mystery and realism. But I loved the story a whole lot more in WaW-BO2, when there was a story that was going forward while at the same time these ancient beings we've just heard briefly about were never seen. ![]() Of course, you can't have vague and cryptic things all the time and give little to no context or anything to latch onto. It's what made them mysterious in the first place, so why not end it with that sense of unkown still active? I feel questions don't always need to be answered. It's the feeling of wanting that is really the thing I like here, and not the actual answers I want. If I got them, the whole point of it would be gone, and I'd probably leave the show and forget about it. These are questions I FEEL like I want answers to, but I know I don't want them. I actually left the show with more questions than answers "What was the true meaning behind it all? What was this really about, and what was that really about?". Take his series Twin Peaks:Īt the end of that show, I felt like I had gotten enough closure and answers while not getting them all. ![]() Simply go to /r/CODZombies or set the Redesign as your default experience in preferences.ĭavid Lynch is a great example.
